Abstract
Juvenile delinquency in Poland is a significant problem. The author responds to the growing need for a new perspective on this issue. The aim of the paper is to outline the extent of juvenile delinquency in Poland in the light of publicly available materials that can be used to determine it. The paper also aims to show the broader theoretical issues involved in trying to assess the extent of crime. Three issues that are clarified and resolved become crucial for the analysis of the extent of crime:
- the categories of behaviour that are included under crimes committed by minors;
- the assessment criteria to be applied; and
- the indicators to be used to measure the extent of juvenile delinquency in Poland.
The indicators used in the paper are diverse and complementary to each other, which allows the issues analysed to be presented in the broadest possible way.
