Abstract

Issues concerning the shape of matrimonial property relations are the subject of debate among the legal theorists of the socialist state. There is an urgent social need to normalise these relationships. In communist states, there was a widespread belief that property commonality within marriage best met social needs as well as the best interests of the socialist state, and the policies it pursued. In the article, the author cites the achievements of USSR legislation and doctrine and describes the evolution of Polish legislation from the time of independence in 1918 to the present day.
