Abstract
In the modern codifications of maritime law, we do not find provisions regulating shipbuilding contracts. Accordingly, the provisions of civil law apply, treating this contract as a variant of a work contract. This paper presents the problem of the transfer of ownership of a ship from the shipyard where it was built to the shipowner. The author attempts to answer doubts about the scope of the property in question and when it was acquired by the shipowner. He analyses the structure of a shipbuilding contract, which lists a number of entities that may be party to the contract. In addition, he presents specific examples of problems concerning the ownership of a maritime vessel, such as classification into main things, components and ship's appurtenances, among others.
