Author Guidelines

CHARGES

The journal does not charge authors article processing charges (APCs) or other submission charges. All articles are published in the Open Access model with ensuring permanent archiving without any costs for the authors of the articles.

TERM OF LICENCE

All articles published in "Criminology Bulletin" ("Biuletyn Kryminologiczny") will be immediately and permanently free for everyone to read, download, copy and distribute. Permitted reuse is defined by CC BY licenses: lets others distribute and copy the article, to create extracts, abstracts, and other revised versions, adaptations or derivative works of or from an article (such as a translation), to include in a collective work (such as an anthology), to text or data mine the article, even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit the author(s), do not represent the author as endorsing their adaptation of the article, and do not modify the article in such a way as to damage the author’s honor or reputation.

This journal uses a non-exclusive licensing agreement CC-BY 4.0 for publishing submitted articles in open access.

Authors hold copyright without restrictions alongside scholarly usage rights and retains reprints rights of an article. The Institute of Law Studies PAS (as the publisher of the scientific journal) will be granted publishing and distribution rights. ILS PAS is granted the following rights:
- the non-exclusive right to publish and distribute an article, and to grant rights to others, including for commercial purposes. ILS PAS will apply the relevant third party user license where publishes the articles on sublicensed online platforms;
- the right to provide the article in all forms and media so the article can be used on the latest technology;
- the authority to enforce the rights in the article, on behalf of an author, against third parties, for example in the case of plagiarism or copyright infringement.

SHORT GUIDELINES

Authors preparing texts for "Criminology Bulletin" are requested to conform to the following guidelines:

1. The text (including tables, if any) should be submitted only in digital format in Microsoft Word (Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing), and tables and chartsshould be submitted in Microsoft Excel.
   
   
2. The text must be accompanied by:
   

   – a list of 3–10 keywords in Polish and in English,

   – the title of the text in English,

   – an abstract in Polish of no less than 500 and no more than 1000 characters, including spaces and

   – an abstract in English of no less than 500 and no more than 1000 characters, including spaces.

3. Headings may be used in the text, and it is recommended to structure the text as follows:
   

   Preface / Introduction / Preliminary remarks

   1. First heading

   1.1. Subheading

   1.2. Subheading

   1.2.1. Sub-subheading

   1.2.2. Sub-subheading

   2. Second heading

   3. Third heading

   Summary / Final remarks / Conclusions

4. The full text of legal provisions, including laws of international conventions (in Polish or in English), should not be quoted in the text unless it is absolutely necessary and will be done as an exception.
   
   
5. If a reference is made in the text to the names of other authors, their full names should be quoted.
   
   
6. Marking passages in the text with bold font or underlining should not be done.
   
   
7. Foreign-language wording used in the text should be formatted in italics.
   
   
8. Bibliographic references in the text should be prepared in accordance with the principles of the Harvard Referencing Style and placed in the brackets in the text. For rules and examples of the bibliographic description see „Bibiliography and referencing” webpage.
   
   
9. If the text is written in Polish, bibliographic descriptions in references list should be prepared in accordance with rules for Polish texts (see „Zapis bibliograficzny” in the Polish version of the website). If the text is written in English, see „Bibliography and referencing” webpage.
   
   
10. The names of Polish acts should be written in lowercase letters (except for the Polish Constitution). The names of international conventions should start with a capital letter, but they should not be italicized.
    
    
11. When referring to publishers of legal acts, please follow these guidelines:
    
    a) acts published before 2012: J.o.L of 2009 No. 20, item 107.  
    
    b) acts published after 2012 (without numbering): J.o.L of 2016, item 2290.
    
    c) when referring to a consolidated text, the above should be preceded by the abbreviation ‘i.e.'
    
    
12. In the texts accepted for publication, the authors are required to provide information on the source of funding for their research.
    
    

13. The submitted materials should be accompanied by a separate profile of the author:

    – academic degree or title,

    – name of the university with which the text is affiliated,

    – ORCID number,

    – phone number,

    – e-mail address.

14. Texts should be submitted via The Archives of Criminology’s online platform: http://ak.inp.pan.pl/index.php/ak/about/submissions, after logging into the system. All correspondence with the author(s) will also be handled via this platform, including news about reviews and corrected texts submitted in accordance with the reviewers’ guidelines.

15. Authors submitting texts are required to upload to the system an anonymized file, i.e., a file without personal data (name and surname) or other data that would allow the author(s) to be identified, e.g., references to their publications, the institution in which the project is being or has been carried out, words of thanks to the supervisor of the work on which the article was based, the name of the research project, etc.

16. Texts which were co-authored are submitted by one of the authors (with whom correspondence will be held), who is responsible for entering all data into TheArchives of Criminology’s online platform and for correspondence with the editorial staff of  'Criminology Bulletin'. In the application submitted through the platform, the author should indicate all other co-authors of the text.

17. Submitting a text, authors should complete a conflict of interest declaration and state the source of funding for the research discussed in the text.
    
    
18. A conflict of interest means that the author(s) (or their employer or sponsor) have some direct or indirect financial, commercial, legal, or professional interest or relationship with another organisation that could influence the research presented in the manuscript, including honoraria, grants, or other forms of financial support for the author(s) or their research, membership, employment, consultancy, and/or expert testimony. If there is a conflict of interest, please confirm that you have read the definition of a conflict of interest by checking the checkbox and describe the conflict of interest in the form below.
19. All materials are subject to language editing and proofreading. The author will receive the final version of the text for authorization and correction. The author’s corrections should be carried out within 1 mounth. After this period, the editors will assume that the author agrees to the changes proposed by the editor.
    
    
20. The editorial board of "Criminology Bulletin" do not impose restrictions on the size of the submitted texts. However, we publish rather more extensive analyses containing research findings along with an interpretation of them or in-depth analytical texts. The average size of texts published in our journal is 2–3 printed sheets. We do not publish short texts which are reports or minor contributions. We do not publish conference reports or publication reviews.
    
    
21. Individuals whose texts are accepted for print will be required to sign a licence agreement (free, non-exclusive licence with the right to sub-licence) with permission to publish their work in paper and digital format by the Editorial Board of "Criminology Bulletin".
