It is with deep sadness that we learn that on June 1, 2026, Ph.Dr Miroslav Scheinost, a member of the Editorial Board of the "Archive of Criminology", passed away. The editors of the "Archive of Criminology" could always count on Miroslav Scheinost's engagement, who shared his knowledge and valuable comments with us and with the authors of papers he agreed to review.
Miroslav Scheinost was an eminent Czech criminologist, sociologist and long-time director of the Institute of Criminology and Social Prevention in Prague, as well as the first head of the Czech Society of Criminology established in 2012. He shaped the directions of Czech criminal policy. He was widely recognised as one of the key figures who transformed criminology in the Czech Republic into an independent and modern scientific discipline after 1989.
Miroslav Scheinost's research interests focused on organised crime, economic crime, migration and crime prevention. As a valued academic lecturer, author of numerous monographs and an active participant in international scientific bodies (including the European Society of Criminology), Miroslav Scheinost has made an invaluable contribution to the integration of Central European science with world discourse.
